                                                          Introduction

As you read this book, imagine what it would be like to grow up, live, study, work, socialize, raise children and retire in the communities described. Imagine what your home and property would look like. Imagine walking or riding a bike through these communities. What do you see and hear?

In 2008, such communities exist only in imagination. In the not so distant future, when they exist in physical form, they will appear as a reflection of what we are now seeing in our minds.

Creating ideal communities is, initially, an exercise in collective imagination.
As our shared vision becomes sufficiently well defined, the communities in our minds take form in the physical realm. This is an exercise in imagining perfection, in defining precisely what we want as ideal communities and as an ideal, global civilization and then wrapping reality around this collective dream. It is an exercise in creating virtual communities that then become physical communities.

The Freedom Community web site facilitates this creation. It locates all the key ingredients needed to develop these communities: land, staff, residents and students. It collects comments, ideas, suggestions and feedback.

Also the "Pictures/Renderings" link collects pictures capturing what people think these communities should or might look like. It also invites artists to submit renderings of possible site plans, buildings, houses, community scenery and so on. Thus, through our imaginations, ideas, pictures and renderings, we create these virtual communities. The rest, then, soon becomes history.
